Work planner at the A-Pier at Schiphol Airport
Linda lives with her partner and two children in the picturesque town of Den Hoorn and is glad to reside just a stone's throw away from the city of Delft. "The tranquility is delightful, but I also really enjoy the city." And that enjoyment, she finds in life's simple pleasures: cooking and eating delicious meals, spending time with friends, and unwinding by going for a nice run in the area.
In early 2022, Linda made the switch to BAM. She had been working as a product engineer in the elevator industry but wanted more, and that's when BAM came into the picture. "The work as a product engineer was enjoyable, but you're only involved in a small part of the process. When I saw a message on LinkedIn from Rob Tollenaar, project director at BAM Construction and Technology, where they were looking for a work planner, I was intrigued and saw it as an opportunity to broaden my horizons. And I succeeded!"
As a work planner, you are a crucial link in the project. You are the connecting factor between various parties, such as engineering, execution, subcontractors, etc. "You really need to be an organizer for this job," Linda explains. "No day is the same. You encounter unforeseen issues, and that, however strange it may sound, gives me a lot of energy. It requires problem-solving skills and creativity, and I'm happy to dive into that. And the fact that I can also directly see the result of my work is the icing on the cake. I'm still happy every day that I took the plunge and started working at BAM."
Linda is proud of the strides she has taken over the past two years. "I had a background in construction, of course, but I had been focused on one specific aspect in the construction world for over ten years. I still look back with a smile on my first project at BAM: the construction of the Langeveld Building at Erasmus University Rotterdam, where I learned so much and now get to apply in practice at the A-Pier at Schiphol."
The buddy system aided Linda in her development at BAM. Collaborating, one of BAM's values, aligns very well with this. "You need each other to make something a success. Whether it's a project or a contract, you work together with your colleagues, subcontractors, advisors, clients, and then you have to open your mind to others' insights." Linda also finds the other BAM values extremely important. "Take sustainability, for example. We need to take action now to keep the Earth livable for future generations. The fact that we at BAM make a significant contribution to this makes me proud."
At the moment, Linda has only one goal: to work on even more beautiful projects! And also to take on the role of a buddy for new colleagues. And what she wants to convey to young people today: "When in doubt, just do it! The choices are vast when you're in high school. But go on internships, attend open days, get a taste of it. Technology is so beautiful and so versatile!"
