The first DBFM contract for road infrastructure in the Netherlands is realized. On Tuesday, 4 February, Provincial Executive drs P. van Vugt of the Province of North-Brabant signed the agreement with the Consortium Poort van Den Bosch B.V. to accelerate the conversion of state highway N50 between Rosmalen and Geffen. The agreement is a so-called Design, Build, Finance & Maintain (DBFM) contract for design, construction, financing and maintenance of the road, including viaducts and noise barriers.

A £70 million bridge project backed by the Export Credits Guarantee Department (ECGD) is giving an economic boost to north-eastern Bangladesh by easing a major transport bottleneck. Civil engineering company Edmund Nuttall Ltd, based in Camberley, Surrey, designed and built the 1.2 kilometre-long concrete bridge across the river Meghna between Bhairab and Ashuganj.

FCI Constructors [a subsidiary of HBG Constructors] was awarded two contracts in the state of California, USA, with a combined value of approximately $45 million. These projects include the reconstruction and reconfiguration of interchanges in Mountain View, Santa Clara, and a highway improvement project in San Diego County.

HBG Construction has won a three million-euro contract to carry out the Plaza Works at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King in Liverpool. The project is scheduled for completion in August 2003.

Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau and Wayss & Freytag Schlüsselfertigbau are to start work next month on the renovation of Hanover's Lower Saxony Stadium. The existing Hanover 96 Stadium will be largely demolished and rebuilt. The contract is worth €63.5 million. The project is scheduled for completion early in 2005.

Six years later Interbeton is back at work on the Qafco artificial fertiliser plant in Mesaieed, Qatar. The plant is expanding and needs additional jetties, pumping stations and cooling water systems.

As part of an alliance contract with Network Rail North West, Nuttall’s cleanup gangs spring into action as soon as local inhabitants report graffiti on railway viaducts, bridges and tunnels via a special hotline.
