In the South African port of Durban, Interbeton has sunk the first caissons in place that will form a 1,200 metre quay wall. Our international group company is carrying out the project in joint venture with the local construction firms Grinaker-LTA and BCW.

It is still somewhat early in the season, but bathers are again welcome to enjoy France's Atlantic beaches near Bordeaux. Ballast Ham Dredging is currently putting the finishing touches to a beach replenishment project in the Bay of Arcachon.

Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau has won a contract to build a waste bunker for a new waste-to-energy plant in Magdeburg. The contract value is over €12 million.

It is almost certainly the first underground children’s playground in the Netherlands. Royal BAM Group has converted an underpass in Amsterdam into a children’s paradise. TunFun has been fitted out with all sorts of play equipment, a mini-cinema, a café and even a children’s hairdresser.

The first concrete bridge to be constructed beneath an operational motorway in the UK has been successfully completed by Nuttall, using the box jacking technique. The box jack is part of a nine million-euro project, undertaken on behalf of the Highways Agency to provide a section of dual carriageway road between the two roundabouts on the A43, either side of the M1 at junction 15A, near Northampton.

Interbeton has started the Low Cost Housing project in October 1998. Then a plan was developed for construction of approximately 3,000 apartments. A request for a contribution from the Export Financing Arrangement Indonesia [EFI] was forwarded to Senter in August 1999.

The flood defence dam at Melton Mowbray is ready for action and due to be handed over by Nuttall to the client, the Environment Agency. This 7.6 million-euro scheme will protect the town of Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire from flooding from the River Eye.

The assembly of the steel bridge deck sections on the New Carquinez Bridge in California takes the project into a new phase. The new fixed link over 1,000 metres long spanning the Carquinez Strait is being built by a consortium including HBG Constructors.

The uncontrolled dumping of more than seven million cubic metres of household refuse was forming a serious threat to the drinking water supply of the Croatian capital Zagreb. Now the enormous waste mountain outside the Croatian capital is being tackled under the supervision of Tebodin.

Today SKS Power Sdn Bhd awarded the contract for the land reclamation and soil improvement for the construction of a 3 * 700 MWatt power plant in Johor, Malaysia, to IMW Dredging.

Royal BAM Group will be forming three new operating companies in the course of 2003 to address the Dutch construction and property market, viz. BAM Utiliteitsbouw (general construction), BAM Woningbouw (housebuilding) and BAM Vastgoed (property).

The first DBFM contract for road infrastructure in the Netherlands is realized. On Tuesday, 4 February, Provincial Executive drs P. van Vugt of the Province of North-Brabant signed the agreement with the Consortium Poort van Den Bosch B.V. to accelerate the conversion of state highway N50 between Rosmalen and Geffen. The agreement is a so-called Design, Build, Finance & Maintain (DBFM) contract for design, construction, financing and maintenance of the road, including viaducts and noise barriers.

A £70 million bridge project backed by the Export Credits Guarantee Department (ECGD) is giving an economic boost to north-eastern Bangladesh by easing a major transport bottleneck. Civil engineering company Edmund Nuttall Ltd, based in Camberley, Surrey, designed and built the 1.2 kilometre-long concrete bridge across the river Meghna between Bhairab and Ashuganj.

FCI Constructors [a subsidiary of HBG Constructors] was awarded two contracts in the state of California, USA, with a combined value of approximately $45 million. These projects include the reconstruction and reconfiguration of interchanges in Mountain View, Santa Clara, and a highway improvement project in San Diego County.

HBG Construction has won a three million-euro contract to carry out the Plaza Works at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King in Liverpool. The project is scheduled for completion in August 2003.

Since 1974, when the group company first established itself in the United Arab Emirates, production and distribution of drinking water has been one of the most important aspects of Tebodin's work. When the oil and gas industry underwent a period of rapid development in the 1980s, it represented an expansion of activities for Tebodin Middle East.

Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau and Wayss & Freytag Schlüsselfertigbau are to start work next month on the renovation of Hanover's Lower Saxony Stadium. The existing Hanover 96 Stadium will be largely demolished and rebuilt. The contract is worth €63.5 million. The project is scheduled for completion early in 2005.
