Ambitious office development at King’s Cross takes next step with contractor appointment

BAM realiseert opnieuw omvangrijk kantoorgebouw op King’s Cross in Londen

Bunnik, the Netherlands, 17 December 2018 - The spectacular transformation of King’s Cross led by the King’s Cross Central Limited Partnership (KCCLP) has taken yet another forwards step as KCCLP appoints BAM Construction in London to deliver 11-21 Canal Reach.

BAM, which recently completed the newest King’s Cross landmark, Coal Drops Yard, will now realise the Bennett Associates-designed suite of new buildings, aimed at achieving the lowest carbon high quality commercial office building in the UK.

The development includes two buildings providing BREEAM Outstanding office accommodation. When they are finished, Plots T2 and T3 will become known as 11-21 Canal Reach.

The building on plot T2 will be 12 storeys high at its highest point at the southern end of the site, stepping down to nine storeys towards the north. There will be impressive roof terraces with views across the city.

BAM is onsite already with a substantial enabling and substructure works package before the main scheme commences in earnest, with the expectation of completing early in 2021. Although the sums remain commercially confidential, it represents the largest contract signed by BAM Construct UK.

Construction Director Ewen Hunter, who has led for BAM on several of the buildings at King’s Cross, said: ‘Nothing at King’s Cross is ordinary. Every building is ambitious and the client is constantly pushing what can be achieved for itself and others. Our teams embrace the challenge and our integrated model, involving our design and engineering businesses, makes us an ideal fit for the scale and complexity of this big building with a demanding design.’

Planning for the T-Zone plots were granted by Camden Council in September 2016.
