CW Awards 2018: BAM International wins HSE honours

BAM's HSE initiative was awarded at the Construction Week Awards 2018 in Dubai.

Dubai, 4 December 2018 - BAM International was awarded Health and Safety Initiative of the Year honours at the Construction Week Awards 2018, held at Dubai’s JW Marriott Marquis hotel on 4 December 2018.

Judges praised BAM’s ‘Your Safety is My Safety’ initiative for the priority it places on communication, and its focus on behaviour – not the individual. The programme led to a 30% decline in injuries and 35% improvements in group-wide behavioural performance.

BAMs programme was also praised for being a behavioural initiative with a common, embedded message across the supply chain.

AF Construction’s Visual Impact Training (VIT) Programme was Highly Commended Health and Safety Initiative of the Year.

The programme is aimed at communicating both safe and unsafe site practices in a bid to raise employee awareness about how to reduce accidents across the business.

Effective health and safety practices make it possible for our industry to complete the remarkable projects that we see in the Middle East without incurring a human cost. This award is designed to recognise health, safety, and environment (HSE) achievements, and to highlight specific initiatives that the region’s construction companies have employed to improve onsite safety.

Nominated alongside BÁM International and AF Construction in this category were Aecom’s Safeguard Licence; Al Naboodah Construction Group’s Occupational Health & Safety Week; ALEC’s Look & See Initiative; Creating Awareness for a Risk-Free Environment (Care) by S&T Interiors and Contracting; Emirates Falcon Electromechanical Company’s (Efeco) Zero-tolerance Policy; Native Speaker Safety Training by China State Construction Engineering Corporation Middle East; and Own Zero by Parsons.

An independent panel of judges, comprising eight of the Middle East’s foremost construction experts, selected winners in 13 categories at the Construction Week Awards 2018.

Construction Week Awards 2018 were supported by Gold Sponsors ALEC, ASGC, Arabtec, and Al Naboodah; Silver Sponsors Future Metro, Unimix, and WME Consultants; Category Sponsors Construction Computer Software, Acrow, JLG, and Ramboll; returning Social Media Partner, WSP; Content Partner UGC Factory; and Post-Event Celebration Sponsor, BAM International.
