Deutsche Bahn AG awards contract for main construction parts of 2nd main line of Munich’s S-Bahn System: ‘Tunnel West’ and ‘Munich Central Station’

(English translation of original German press release of DB Netz AG*:) Munich, 3 December 2018 - Deutsche Bahn AG has awarded another contract for the main construction parts of the second main line of Munich’s S-Bahn system. It includes both the structural works of the western tunnel section from Donnersberger Bridge to Marienhof station and the new underground rapid transit station at Munich Central Station, the so-called Nukleus. The award goes to a joint venture consisting of the partners Wayss & Freytag Ingenieurbau AG, Max Bögl Stiftung & Co. KG, Ed. Züblin AG and Bauer Spezialtiefbau GmbH. The contract has a value of approximately €676 million.

Overall project manager Markus Kretschmer: ‘We are pleased to have allured competent partners with the joint venture for the challenging construction of the new underground rapid transit station Central Station and the western section of the tunnel. After almost two years of preparatory works at the central station, we can initiate the second phase there and start with the main construction works in the coming year.’

Currently there is another tendering procedure for the main construction works at Marienhof section. These construction works will be awarded in the coming weeks.
