BAM International supports International Women’s Day 2018

Bunnik, the Netherlands, 8 March 2018 – Today, BAM International celebrated International Women’s Day 2018 – themed ‘#Press for Progress’ – at its sites and offices around the world and in its head office in The Hague, the Netherlands. The objective of the event was to support the growing diversity in BAM International’s own workforce and to support women in their career paths to higher positions worldwide, both of which are among BAM International’s key targets.

The importance of engaging (more) women at BAM is strongly recognised by BAM International’s Board members George Mazloumian (CEO) and Wouter Remmelts (Managing Director).

George Mazloumian said: ‘In my view, the best team is a balanced team consisting of men and women. And on top of that, also of a variety of ethnical backgrounds. Maybe too good to be true? BAM International is dedicated to change the “maybe’’ into reality.’

Wouter Remmelts said: ’Mixed teams are much more innovative and creative and the solutions reached are usually different and better than those of teams with only men. I really think that women make a difference.’

In The Hague, all staff were invited to join a presentation and a group activity to create further awareness of the subject and to share ideas on how to attract more women to work for BAM International.

In Africa, on the Terminal III project at Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, a toolbox talk and discussion was organised on how to improve the working conditions for women. Furthermore the project team organised a CSR event in which several employees visited New Hope For Girls, an orphanage for girls at Kimara, to bring basic goods.

The activities of Women’s Day will be continued on Saturday 10 March, when Tanzanian guest speaker Mrs Emelda Mwamanga, CEO of Bang! Magazine, will inspire women to step up their career.

In the longer term, BAM International will continue its efforts to improve gender balance and ethnic diversity within its organisation. It will focus on appointing talented women at all levels of the organisation and in all departments, including – and especially – in technical positions.
