Construction team cricketers step up to the crease to support top Sheffield charities

Sheffield, 26 July 2018 - The team behind Sheffield’s Heart of the City II development swapped hard hats for cricket bats in a recent charity cricket tournament.

BAM Construction hosted the tournament in support of two local Sheffield charities, St Luke’s Hospice and Action for Children. Eight teams from across the construction sector took part, raising a total of £3,803.

The tournament was co-hosted by Turner and Townsend, whose chosen charity is Action for Children. Teams from Sheffield City Council and Arup took part, with Yorkshire company NG Bailey taking home the trophy.

BAM is the contractor delivering Sheffield’s Heart of the City II development, a new office building with retail space, restaurants and a stunning new public realm. Scheduled for completion in the first half of 2019, the project has already created 52 new jobs in Sheffield and 10 new apprenticeships.

The team from BAM has also worked closely with Sheffield Hallam University, Sheffield College and local schools, to provide education opportunities across the STEM subjects, on this prestigious project.

BAM Senior Planner, Simon Pratt, commented: ‘Sheffield and its people mean a lot to us. Not only have we built many buildings here, but many of us live here and have family here. We understand how important the hospice is at a difficult time in a family’s life. We’re only too pleased to help them raise funds for the work they do.’

BAM is behind many recent new buildings in South Yorkshire, including Graves Leisure Centre, Sheffield UTC and the Oasis Academy Don Valley.
