BAM delivers new Newton Mearns Primary School and Nursery

Glasgow, 4 September 2019 - BAM Construction has handed over the £15 million Maidenhill Primary School and Nursery in Newton Mearns to East Renfrewshire Council.

Pupils started the autumn term in the brand new facilities designed to provide early learning facilities for the new Maidenhill residential area in Newton Mearns, on the edge of Glasgow, where a first phase of 834 homes is also under construction.

Delivered on time and budget, the school and nursery located off Ayr Road can accommodate up to 444 primary and 120 nursery places and features joint community facilities including a multi-use games hall and 3G pitch.

Bruce Dickson, Regional Director, BAM Construction, said: ‘We are extremely proud of the finished school and nursery, which have been well received by teachers and the first pupils, and are delighted to have worked in partnership with the local authority to deliver this new community facility. With the recent schools we have delivered we’ve had to work around an existing site, so it was good on this occasion to build a completely new facility, purpose built for the long-term needs of the Maidenhill community.’

Councillor Paul O’Kane, Convenor for Education and Equalities at East Renfrewshire Council added: ‘We are committed to investing significantly in the future of our children and young people. The new Maidenhill Primary and Nursery will provide the required additional places which will be needed as families move into new homes in the area. So as well as creating a high quality educational facility which will deliver for our residents, we are also building for the future as people continue to move to East Renfrewshire to benefit from our fantastic schools and nurseries.’

BAM Construction has a track record in the education sector having delivered over £474 million school works over the past seven years representing 23 primary and secondary schools in both East and West Scotland.
