Meet the team delivering the Stubbington Bypass

(News release Hampshire County Council:) 8 January 2020 - With work due to start later in this month (January 2020) on constructing a new bypass at Stubbington, Hampshire County Council is inviting local residents and businesses to a public information event to view the plans and meet the team delivering the project.

Councillor Rob Humby, Deputy Leader of Hampshire County Council and Executive Member for Economy, Transport and Environment, said: ‘We made a commitment to the people of Gosport and Stubbington to improve traffic and travel in South Hampshire and have worked hard to get to this stage. I would encourage as many people as possible to come along to meet the team and find out more about this major project. This project represents a key part of the County Council’s strategy to improve access into Gosport and Fareham, to reduce congestion and improve journey time reliability for road users. Improving the transport network will undoubtedly encourage new investment and development into the area and provide new jobs for local people.’

Representatives from Hampshire County Council and contractors BAM Nuttall Ltd, delivering this major scheme on behalf of the County Council, will be at the Holy Rood Church, Gosport Road, Stubbington, PO14 2AS on Tuesday 21 January 2020 between 1pm and 7pm and look forward to meeting and talking to as many people as possible. Plans on the construction and an overview of how traffic will be managed throughout the scheme will be on display.

Hampshire County Council has developed the £3.4 million Stubbington bypass scheme to:

  • Divert traffic around Stubbington to help reduce journey times and peak time congestion onto and off the Gosport peninsula;
  • Improve transport infrastructure to encourage investment and regeneration in the area especially at the Solent Enterprise Zone;
  • Improve the environment within Stubbington village with reduced traffic flows and improved access for pedestrians and cyclists;
  • Provide a new 3.5 kilometre connection from the B3334 Titchfield Road to B3334 Gosport Road, with additional improvements to the existing sections at Titchfield; Road at its northern end and Gosport Road at the southern end.

Work is due to last for approximately 24 months

The Stubbington Bypass represents the final part of an investment of nearly £100 million into road and transport improvements in the area, developed in partnership between the County Council and the Solent LEP in recent years, aimed at improving access to the Gosport Peninsula and the Enterprise Zone. In addition, the County Council has invested in the Eclipse Bus Rapid Transit route, upgrades to Newgate Lane, Peel Common roundabout and improvements to the A27.
