Construction team donates £1000 of gifts to Redcar nursing home

Residents and staff at the Mulroy Seaview Nursing Home in Redcar were presented with £1000 of unexpected Christmas gifts this week, courtesy of friendly contractors BAM, who are working on the new Redcar Cinema next door.

Project Manager Mark Laidlaw and his team popped around to the specialist home dedicated to the care of adults with mental health problems which runs 24 single en-suite beds and is located on the sea front at Redcar, virtually next to where Mark and his team are creating the high quality new leisure facilities for the town. Said Mark: ‘It is important that we acknowledge all the efforts of the staff and residents through the Covid 19 pandemic so has affected us all. The head nurse Mandy was actually very tearful when speaking with us today. She told me it was a very emotional day for the staff when they received our call and their residents will be surprised with the gifts at the Christmas party we have provided.’

Mark and his team gave the nursing home a selection of presents including pyjamas and skin care products. Mandy Turner, head carer at Mulroy Seaview Nursing Home, said, ‘We were very grateful when Mark called. This year has been extremely difficult with the Covid pandemic and our staff and residents were in need morale boost. Mark and his team gave us  just that.’

It follows another kind-hearted act last week when over a dozen members of BAM and its sub-contractors conducted a beach clean to help contribute to community efforts to the keep the beach in good condition. It will be the first of several. When complete in 2022, the two-storey new cinema will be more accessible for users and its glazed structure will make the most of the views across the beach and sea front. BAM is currently creating a new sea defence structure from the beach to promenade level and carrying out works to improve the sewerage system. Mark Laidlaw says he expects to welcome apprentices on site in the New Year and make use of locally-supplied materials.
