BAM FM schools receive high rating by independent sustainability body

Hemel Hempstead, 21 October 2021 - Two of BAM FM’s PFI contracts – for Somerset Schools and West Dunbartonshire – achieved fourth and seventh place respectively in the latest GRESB assessments of infrastructure management and performance.

The two BAM FM contracts were placed in the annual GRESB Infrastructure Asset Assessment, in the ‘Northern Europe Schools (Classes and Sports Facilities) Maintenance and Operation’ category.

GRESB (formerly Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark) is an internationally recognised benchmark for assessing the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) performance of property. The annual GRESB Assessment provides the basis for systematic reporting, objective scoring and peer benchmarking of ESG management and performance in infrastructure assets worldwide.

Twelve categories are covered, including health & safety, energy, greenhouse gas emissions air pollution water waste, and biodiversity & habitat.

BAM FM collects and reports its own data each year which is subjected to a validation process before it is scored and benchmarked. BAM FM has achieved year-on-year improvement for its two PFI contract scores over the last three years.

Strategic Development Director for BAM FM, Reid Cunningham, said: ‘For the third year in a row, we have seen improvements to our scores for both of our GRESB assessed PFI contracts. The detailed assessment process and the results give us useful insights into our sustainability performance and where we can target further areas of improvement and development.’
