BAM Nuttall achieves the highest ever highways excellence lean maturity assessment score

Camberley, 19 October, 2022 - BAM Nuttall has achieved the highest ever Highways Excellence Lean Maturity Assessment score of 3.4 out of a maximum of 4.

This score makes BAM Nuttall, National Highways’ leading contractor for Lean Construction and provides validation from an external and independent team that our approach to Lean deployment is industry leading.

The moderators were impressed by the significant work taking place in Transformation and the excellent examples of Lean at schemes such as A27, M54, Dawlish, EA (Environment Agency) CD Framework, Elland Road P&R, Guildford STW, Leeds FAS, Leeds LPTIP (Leeds Public Transport Investment Programme), Levenmouth, CP7 Framework St Erth & Lelant, Strategic Accounts Team, Temporary Works Design Department, Thames Tideway Tunnel, and Transpennine Upgrade West (TRU).

They also commended BAM’s support of the Lean Construction Institute’s, Lean Construction Development Pathway and our approach to Industrialised Construction through the Transport BU Lean logistics project.

The team was even able to show the moderators BAM Nuttall’s lean approach in action, using the impressive video of the works at Lynebeg & Moy, which highlights the collaboration and cross sector learning between BAM Nuttall’s Rail and Highways sectors.

Independent Assessor, Sharon Banks said: 'The evidence clearly showed BAM Nuttall as leading in Lean construction and was very well deserved - namely the Transformation program and Operational Excellence support - and that BAM's approach promised great things for the future.’

Stuart Willis, Lean Improvement Lead, BAM, commented: ‘Our expectations now are to build upon the great work done to date and realise the full potential of our organisation by integrating a lean approach universally across our business.’
