Invesis enters digital infrastructure sector with acquisition of specialist UK data centre operator Asanti
Glasgow, United Kingdom, 23 November 2022 - Invesis, the leading global investor and developer of sustainable infrastructure, has today announced the next step in its growth and diversification strategy with the acquisition of UK based Asanti Datacentres Limited. Financial details of the transaction are not disclosed.
The deal sees Asanti simultaneously acquire five Regional Edge data centres from Daisy Group, one of the UK’s largest providers of communications and IT solutions. As a result, Invesis has secured an immediate and significant presence within the UK data centre market. Invesis is now the 100 per cent owner of Asanti and will support Asanti with their plans for growth and further development in the sector.
Invesis’ entry into the UK data centre market is part of its strategy to diversify its investment portfolio into core plus sectors, including the wider digital infrastructure market, water infrastructure and renewable energy generation and storage. The acquisition provides Invesis with the opportunity to bring two decades of extensive experience and capability in developing and managing vital infrastructure assets to a sector in which demand for the environmental and commercial benefits of high-speed data connectivity continue to soar.
Invesis advisers on the deal included Pinsent Masons, KPMG and DWPF.
Commenting on the acquisition, Chris Williams, Invesis CEO said: ‘This announcement is hugely exciting news for Invesis. We’ve been looking for the right opportunity to enter the digital infrastructure market for some time and have found in Asanti a business and leadership team with an ethos and ambition that is very much aligned to our own. Industry experts are forecasting an explosion in the demand for regional edge data centres and Asanti, with these initial five data centres, is well positioned to respond to this demand. This is an important first step in our digital infrastructure investment journey, diversifying the Invesis portfolio and providing a platform for growth in the digital infrastructure sector. The Asanti acquisition is very much part of our vision – to transform lives in the communities we serve through sustainable infrastructure.’
Stewart Laing, CEO of Asanti, commented: ‘We’re very proud that such a highly regarded and prominent industry leader has recognised the value of our expertise and commitment to the provision of state-of-the-art technology. I see joining the Invesis group as an exciting opportunity to marry the successful business model of Invesis with Asanti’s objective of driving change in the UK data centre market by providing data centre colocation and services with a specific focus on providing efficient Regional Edge data centre facilities. We work tirelessly with clients to help them achieve financial, technical, and sustainability targets with the best service, innovation, and environmental solutions.;’
