Camberley, 22 September 2022 - More than 200 young para-athletes and supporters joined Perth Strathtay Harriers in a fun day to raise awareness of opportunities for people of all abilities to get involved in sport.

Organised by the Harriers in conjunction with Perth and Kinross Disability Sport, the event was supported by Cross Tay Link Road main contractor BAM Nuttall.

Open to young people aged five years to senior with physical, sensory or learning disabilities and related conditions, events included wheelchair racing and frame running along with a range of distance races on the track.

Jim Hunter, President of the Harriers said: ‘We organised this fun day on the back of a ‘come try para-athletics day’ we had earlier in the summer to build on its success. We wanted to use these days as a way of inclusively trying to get as many young people as possible involved in sport. It was a fantastic event thanks to the athletes, coaches and volunteers including BAM Nuttall for their support.’

BAM Nuttall is committed to delivering a series of community benefits as part as its contract to construct the Cross Tay Link Road project for Perth & Kinross Council. They want to create local volunteering opportunities for staff working on the project which forms part of these benefits.

BAM Nuttall Senior Planning Engineer Saif ur Rehman helped out the Harriers on the day.

‘It was really inspiring seeing so many young people keen to get involved in sport and their enthusiasm. It was truly a demonstration to me that sport really is for everyone’, said Saif ur Rehman.

BAM Nuttall also suppled a series of prizes for the raffle on the day.

Community benefits projects can be anything that could improve the lives of local people.
