Innovative collaboration on future-proof quay walls

The renewal of Amsterdam's quay walls is a significant challenge for the City of Amsterdam: how can you renovate centuries-old heritage in a busy, dynamic city without disrupting daily life? The solution lies not only in technology but also in collaboration. Together with Royal HaskoningDHV, we, as the Koningsgracht consortium, have developed an innovative and sustainable concept: SAVE (Samen Amsterdamse kademuren Vernieuwen, or Renewing Amsterdam's Quay Walls Together). This concept focuses on scalability and minimal disruption to the surroundings. It was first implemented in a pilot project on the Brouwersgracht, located in the heart of Amsterdam’s historic city centre. Ralf Keijser, Project Manager at BAM Infra Nederland, and Rogier Schlesinger, Project Manager at Royal HaskoningDHV, explain how different areas of expertise and a shared vision led to the SAVE concept.
