Construction of award-winning nature-inclusive residential building Zoë in Sluisbuurt Amsterdam commences

On 15 January 2026, area developer AM and BAM Wonen will officially launch the construction of Zoë, a unique award-winning nature-inclusive apartment complex in the Sluisbuurt neighbourhood on Zeeburgereiland in Amsterdam. This is an important step in the development of a sustainable, green and climate-adaptive urban district in Amsterdam.

Green and biodiverse living

Zoë is designed as a so-called zooperation, a sustainable community in which people, plants and animals live together. The plan features rich vegetation of native plants on facades, terraces and roofs. Each of the eight roofs in the plan has its own character and microclimate. As a result, birds, bats and insects also find their home there, alongside the residents. The design by VenhoevenCS architecture+urbanism and DS Landschapsarchitecten ensures an optimal balance between urbanity and nature. Residents will have the opportunity to manage the gardens together with an expert gardener, and the Owners' Association will have a Green Commissioner: an independent supervisor who represents the interests of plants and animals within the Owners' Association.
