The Lichtpunt residential building in Rotterdam is getting a sustainable makeover this year. BAM Wonen is carrying out the sustainability work on behalf of housing association Havensteder. On Monday 19 January, residents, Havensteder and the project team got together for pancakes to kick off the project. After completion in January 2027, the 200 social housing flats on Homerusplein will have energy label A. And the residents? They are looking forward to greater comfort and lower energy costs: more than 85% voted in favour of the sustainability plan.
Het Lichtpunt was built in the 1970s, a period when energy-efficient construction was not yet commonplace. The current energy label for the homes is D. The sustainability measures will make the building fit for the future.
BAM Wonen will thoroughly renovate the building within a year. Both the floor and the roof will be insulated, the cavity walls will receive extra insulation and the facades will be given new cladding. The new plastic window frames with tilt and turn windows will be fitted with HR++ glass with self-regulating ventilation grilles. The flats will also have sun blinds and a mechanical ventilation system with CO₂ and humidity sensors, which will ensure healthy air in the home. In addition, all radiators will be replaced and the fuse boxes modified. The result: lower CO₂ emissions and reduced gas consumption.
