Ascon and Rohcon complete Bord Gais Eireann Headquarters

Rohcon Ltd successfully completed the construction of the new Headquarters for Bord Gais Eireann in Cork on the 1st September 2000.

B.G.E. personnel occupied and worked from their new premises on the 16th September 2000.  The building was formally opened by the Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern on Friday 2nd February 2001.

This is one of the largest office block developments to have taken place in the City in the past three decades; the overall value of the project was £12 Million and the contract was built in 16 months.  The development is located on a seven acre site, part of the old Gas Works site off Albert Road.  Prior to commencement of the building contract Ascon Ltd carried out the remediation contract of the site which involved removing all contaminated materials from the job site.

Architects Keane Murphy Duff designed this bright open state-of-the art facility.  The main building is five storeys high with a glazed circular entrance drum and a glazed curtain wall system to the front.  The sunny south facing façade has a brise soleil shade to minimise solar gain.  Located south of the main office block is the two storey Scada building which houses the nerve centre of the Irish Natural Gas network.  This is linked to the main administration building via a glazed bridge.  As well as the 54,000 sq ft office block, this development also includes stores and workshops.

Rohcon Ltd are currently involved on other commercial projects throughout the country along with two major hospital projects one in Cork for Bon Secours Health Systems at Mount Desert, Cork and the other at Portlaoise in the form of a major expansion to Portlaoise General Hospital.
