Ballast Nedam and HBG to build Omniworld for NV Sportcomplex Almere

Almere / Amstelveen / Rijswijk, the Netherlands – NV Sportcomplex Almere has reached agreement with the joint venture comprising Ballast Nedam Ontwikkelingsmaatschappij and HBG Vastgoed on the further development and construction of the Omniworld sports and entertainment centre in Almere. The Almere Municipal Council yesterday approved the construction of Omniworld.

Among other facilities, Omniworld includes a large sports and conference centre, an exhibition hall, sports and lifestyle-related shopping and restaurant facilities, residential units, a hotel, parking facilities and offices. The football stadium has a capacity of 13,500 spectators and the indoor sports arena can seat 3,500. Ballast Nedam Utiliteitsbouw and HBG Utiliteitsbouw will be responsible for the construction of the sports facilities on behalf of NV Sportcomplex, involving a contract price in excess of €80 million [NLG 180 million].

Ballast Nedam Ontwikkelingsmaatschappij and HBG Vastgoed will also be developing and building approximately 46,000 square metres of office accommodation and around 400 new homes in the area covered by the development plan. This part of the project is worth €150 million [NLG 330 million]. In addition, the two companies will be building approximately 20,000 square metres of office space, parking facilities, an exhibition hall and so on, representing a value of €55 million [NLG 120 million].

The development plan is the work of the international firm of architects and planning consultants Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, with which HBG Vastgoed has collaborated on a previous occasion in connection with the construction of the new seat of the provisional government in Zuid-Holland, the Provinciehuis.

Ballast Nedam and HBG will start work on the construction of Omniworld in 2002, and the complex will be completed in phases, commencing in mid-2003.
