BAM delivers the ‘Development of the Year’

Glasgow, 5 May 2015 - Within days of being handed over to Renfrew Council by BAM Construction Scotland, Johnstone Town Hall was awarded the accolade of ‘Development of the Year (Public Buildings)’ at the Scottish Property Awards.

This building, with its combination of a striking glass façade, deep public atrium and high quality stone finishes stand from the surrounding buildings in Ludovic Square, and was designed as a catalyst for a wider regeneration programme for the town. It creates a new model for the delivery of community services as the public library, theatre, marriage suite, conference room and café sit alongside staff from the council’s housing and social work departments, AdviceWorks, Police Scotland and MacMillan Cancer Support. In this respect it is an extraordinary building inside and out.

Douglas Keillor, Regional Director Scotland BAM Construction, said: ‘It’s always a bonus for everyone involved in a project to have their work recognised by a prestigious award and when you look at what they’ve created, it really is an inspirational building. This is another example of what collaborative working can achieve, in this case between the stakeholders, our client, Hub West, the designers led by Miller Holmes, and my own team and supply chain.’

The new Town Hall, which opened to the public at the end of March, was project managed by Hub West Scotland, the public private joint venture development organisation designed to deliver the most efficient and value for money buildings in Scotland.

BAM Construction is one of Scotland’s leading building contractors, providing a high quality service from its offices in Glasgow and Edinburgh. The company has delivered a range of town centre community facilities including schools, health centres and museums and was recently appointed to develop the V&A Museum in Dundee.
