BAM secures school contract through IESE framework

Hemel Hempstead, 24 January 2012 - BAM Construction has been selected for preconstruction services to deliver a £20 million redevelopment of Park Community School in Hampshire.

The secondary school is situated in Middle Park Way, Havant and caters for around 900 pupils aged 11 to 16.

The contractor will construct two new buildings as well as refurbishing several others on the existing site under a traditional contract for Hampshire County Council.

The project will be constructed within a live school environment, allowing the school to fully function and maintain its high academic results and standards.

Last year BAM was also selected by Hampshire County Council for the full refurbishment of the 500-place Havant Academy situated within the same locality and due to finish late 2012.

The Park Community School project appointment represents the first work through the refreshed Improvement and Efficiency South East framework. BAM was one of eight contractors selected last summer for the framework, which is thought to be worth up to £4.5 billion over four years.

Sustainability is a key topic for the new-look school, which will be naturally ventilated and built to the latest part L Regulations.

Subject to final planning approval, BAM hopes to start on site in summer 2012, with completion expected two years later to coincide with the new academic year.

Construction director Bob Sanders said: ‘It is very pleasing to have secured work already through the hugely important IESE framework. This demonstrates that BAM is providing viable solutions to local authorities during the challenging economic climate.’

He added: ‘It is also great to be working on more projects on the South Coast, which is a very important area for BAM with our considerable staff base in the region and to work again with Hampshire County Council with whom we have developed a strong working partnership.’

BAM recently finished St Mary’s Hospital Portsmouth, and is set to start on ‘The Hub’ community centre also within Portsmouth.

The company has also developed a strong track record in Southampton within the higher education sector and delivered amongst other schemes, the highly regarded sustainable office refurbishment, Elizabeth II Court for Hampshire County Council.
