BAM signs up to support Macmillan

BAM supports Macmillan

Hemel Hempstead, 28 February 2013 - BAM Construct UK has started a new charity partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support by raising over £9,500.- with a series of Big BAM Banquet events held across many of its construction sites and facility management teams.

The company aims to raise over £100,000.- over two years, through a variety of staff fundraising activities, to fund 4,200 hours of vital Macmillan Nursing, and help ensure that no one has to face cancer alone.

BAM Construct UK concluded a two-year partnership with children’s charity Barnardo’s at the end of last year, which had raised in excess of £225,000.-. The money was raised through a variety of events some inspired by its staff and some centrally co-ordinated – such as the eight leg UK-wide bike ride between the different BAM offices.

The design, development, construction and facilities company’s staff are committed to making a difference to the communities they live and work in – one factor which propelled BAM into Sunday Times Best Companies to Work For list, and its Gold status in the Corporate Responsibility Index.

Supporting its communities doesn’t stop at fundraising for BAM, in the last three years BAM employees have given over 28,000 hours of support to a huge variety of community organisations.

Ellie Jenkins, BAM’s Community Engagement Manager, said: ‘We’re very proud to be supporting Macmillan Cancer Support; it is a charity which many people can relate to. The staff here chose their own national charity partner to support which means they are motivated to get involved with initiatives that raise awareness and contribute to their cause. Our employees also support many other community groups and events, the majority of which are local to our schemes. Our aim is to have a positive impact on every community we work in.’

Melanie Failes, from Macmillan Cancer Support said: ‘It is the aim of Macmillan Cancer Support to help improve the lives of everyone affected by cancer, but we cannot do this alone. This is why we are so grateful for the support of organisations like BAM and its staff. Money raised through the partnership  will help fund 4,200 hours of Macmillan Nurses, who are there to provide expert medical treatment and emotional support for  people living with cancer, and their family, through what could be the toughest fight of their life.’

BAM’s partnership with Macmillan runs until 2015.
