BAM to build suite of schools in Buckinghamshire

Hemel Hempstead, 14 May 2012 - BAM Construct UK is to build a £6 million primary and nursery school in Buckinghamshire.

The contractor – which has secured a leading role in the Government’s Academy framework – has also secured a contract to deliver Berryfields Primary and Nursery School on the same site as Aylesbury Vale Academy where it will soon commence work.

Berryfields will have capacity for 420 pupils aged 4-11, and 52 pre-school children. It will also host a range of community facilities including a children’s centre, an IT centre, a kitchenette and rooms for adult learning and social activities. Funding for the school has come through a Section 106 agreement with the developers of the Berryfields estate.

BAM will start on site in June, with completion expected in September 2013. The contract award comes after BAM was selected for the £22 million Aylesbury Vale Academy project through the Partnerships for Schools framework.

BAM’s education framework manager Stephen McMeekin said: ‘I am delighted we have been chosen to deliver this important building on the same site as the Aylesbury Vale Academy. BAM has worked hard to understand the requirements of Buckinghamshire County Council and we look forward to delivering outstanding facilities for nursery, primary and academy pupils.’

Sue Imbriano, strategic director for children and young people’s services at Buckinghamshire County Council, said: ‘The addition of the primary school is a key part of the Berryfields development and complements the existing work to re-locate Aylesbury Vale Academy to a new building on the same site. The County Council looks forward to its successful completion in partnership with BAM and the Oxford Anglican Diocese.’
