BAM wins contract for large university hospital in Basel, Switzerland

Bunnik, the Netherlands, 28 January 2015 – BAM has won a contract (‘letter of intent’) to build the new Felix Platter-Spital in Basel, which will have 240 beds and will be the largest center of Switzerland for academic geriatric medicine and rehabilitation. BAM’s project share is approximately €70 million.

The building plans are developed by a joint venture of two BAM-companies (BAM Swiss and BAM Deutschland) and the Swiss construction company Marti together with the architects wörner traxler judge planungsgesellschaft mbh from Frankfurt am Main and Holzer Kobler Architekturen from Zurich. The Board of Directors of the hospital has chosen BAM’s proposal out of a total of nine proposals. The construction will start in mid-2015. It is expected that the hospital will open its doors for patients on 1 July 2018.

The hospital is built on a 18,000 square meter land and will have four storeys, which in addition to all necessary outpatient and diagnostic facilities provide space for education and research. The new building also includes a day clinic, the Basel Mobility Center and a memory clinic, catering facilities and a centre for general practitioners.
