Better protection on protruding rebar

Better protection on protruding rebar

Ongoing safety improvement – that is the watchword of the Royal BAM Group’s operating companies, and it is something that Urenco Nederland feels strongly about, too. Urenco Nederland enriches uranium for use as fuel in nuclear power stations. BAM Utiliteitsbouw took the hint when Urenco suggested that builders needed to come up with an effective solution for guarding against the risk of impalement on protruding reinforcing bar.

The company opted for rebar safety caps imported from the United States. These particular caps incorporate a metal plate which prevents the cap from being perforated if a load falls on the end of a protruding bar. The product has not yet been CE-marked, but has been tested by a Dutch safety institute. Moreover, the caps make it easier for tower crane drivers to see where the rebar ends are.
