BMB jv appointed to deliver Thames Tideway Tunnel

Bunnik, the Netherlands, 24 August 2015 – BAM Nuttall Ltd, the UK civil engineering arm of Royal BAM Group nv, today announces that it has been appointed to deliver the western section of the Thames Tideway Tunnel, or ‘super sewer’, in joint venture with Morgan Sindall plc and Balfour Beatty Group Limited. The project is valued at £416 million to the joint venture.

The £4.2 billion Thames Tideway Tunnel is currently the largest infrastructure project to be undertaken by the UK water industry and will tackle sewage pollution in the River Thames. The project builds on the successful delivery of the Western Running Tunnels for Crossrail Ltd, in which BAM Nuttall was also operating in joint venture.

The Thames Tideway Tunnel project aims to greatly reduce the 39 million tonnes of untreated sewage that currently flows into the River Thames in a typical year and will upgrade London’s sewerage system to cope with the demands of the city well into the next century.

The seven-year project is due to commence in 2016.

Stephen Fox CBE, Chief Executive, BAM Nuttall Ltd said: ‘BAM Nuttall Ltd has a rich heritage of delivering complex civil engineering projects and as a business we are renowned for our expertise in the delivery of tunnels. We are delighted to have been awarded this prestigious contract during our 150th anniversary year. We look forward to delivering a successful project for Bazelgette Tunnel Ltd, which will benefit Londoners as it will bring life to the River Thames for many years to come.’
