College refurbishment project to restore listed building

HBG Construction has won a £2.3 million refurbishment and remodelling contract at heltenham and Gloucester College of Higher Education, Francis Close hall campus in Cheltenham.

The 26 week contract, which started this month, will involve work to a Grade II* listed building in the centre of the town.

The building fabric is to be strengthened and cleaned to restore it to its former glory. Internal layouts and new environmental services will bring the facilities up to 21st century standards. These include the total refurbishment of the existing library and the creation of learning resources areas.

Feilden Clegg Bradley is the architect, Burnley Wilson Fish is project manager and quantity surveyor, structural engineer is Whitby Bird and service engineer is WSP South.
