Flatiron Construction wins San Marcos Rail Loop and La Jolla Village Drive Bridge contracts

Longmont, CO, 14 December 2004 - FCI Constructors, the southern California subsidiary of Colorado-based Flatiron Construction Corp., has won $30 million in new contracts near San Diego, California.

The first, a $24 million contract to construct new elevated track through San Marcos, California, is part of the new Sprinter Rail Line - a separate $187 million contract awarded to FCI in September.

As managing joint venture partner of West Coast Rail Constructors, FCI will construct five new cast-in place concrete box girder bridges along the new 1.7-mile loop. The loop will veer off from the main rail line at the San Marcos Civic Center to provide access to the California State San Marcos campus station and will rejoin the main rail line near Woodland Parkway.

In a separate contract, FCI will construct a new bridge at the La Jolla Village Drive/Judicial Drive intersection as part of a larger arterial roadway project to direct traffic from La Jolla Village Drive on to Nobel

Drive as it approaches highway 805. "The area has seen extreme amounts of growth over the past 20 to 30 years," says FCI Project Manager Mario Martinez. "Much of the development has been driven both by business, including financial institutions and biotech companies, as well as residential needs." FCI will construct a new bridge on La Jolla Drive, which will enable traffic along the arterial roadway to continue traveling north along Judicial Drive.
