Flatiron Wins $348M Contract to Design and Build New Mississippi River Cable Bridge

(Longmont, CO) May 9, 2006 – Audubon Bridge Constructors, a joint venture led by Flatiron Constructors, has been chosen by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD) to design and construct the new $348M cable-stayed bridge across the Mississippi River.

Flatiron Constructors is leading the Audubon Bridge Constructors team, a joint venture with Granite Construction and Parsons Transportation Group. The team submitted the lowest price and also received the highest technical score on the proposal.

The new bridge, to be formally called the John James Audubon Bridge, will replace the ferry system currently in place. The bridge will connect St. Francisville and New Roads just north of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Work for the project includes 12 miles of roadway approaches that tie the bridge into US 61 and Louisiana Route 10.  The main cable-stayed span will stretch 1,583 feet across the Mississippi River to become the longest cable-stayed bridge in North America. The official groundbreaking is planned for May 11 and the bridge is slated to open in early 2010.

The new bridge is part of Louisiana’s Transportation Infrastructure Model for Economic Development (TIMED) Program, a $4 billion program to construct 16 transportation projects, including highway improvements, three major bridges, and New Orleans port and airport improvements.

Flatiron Constructors is a subsidiary of Flatiron Construction Corp., a Royal BAM Group company.
