Galère replaces Europe's longest steel railway viaduct

Using a spectacular method Galère has replaced the first sections of the Moresnet Railway Viaduct in Belgium. Not far from the German city of Aachen, HBG Civiel’s subsidiary in Wallonia is renovating the longest steel railway viaduct in Europe.

The project, which is worth in excess of €24 million, is being carried out by Galère in consortium with the Belgian steel structures specialist Aelterman. The innovative aspect concerns the special portal lifting structure used to place each new bridge section and, as part of the same operation, remove the existing span. The project is scheduled for completion at the end of 2004.
