HBG awarded £22.5 million Sun Microsystems repeat contract

The contract is the third in a series of phases undertaken by HBG Construction for Sun Microsystems at this 19-hectare site close to Junction 4a of the M3 motorway.  In all, five buildings, a 1,800-space car parking facility, landscaping and infrastructure works make up the £70 million overall development.

Having completed Phase I in September 2000, involving the site clearance, infrastructure works and Buildings ‘A’ and ‘B’ [now called Java House and Solaris House respectively], HBG Construction is half-way through the construction of Building ‘C’, due for completion in October 2001.  The latest contract is to construct Buildings ‘D’ and ‘E’ to accommodate research laboratories, a customer evaluation department and a network systems department – all in a controlled test and research environment.  Completion is programmed for early 2002.

Project manager is Heery International Ltd, quantity surveyor is Hanscomb Ltd, architect is Aukett Associates Ltd and the structural engineer is Peter Brett Associates.
