HBG awarded £4.26 million college building contract in Nottingham

HBG Construction Ltd, which today has a portfolio of work representing over £148 million in the education sector [including £92 million in university work], has been awarded a design and build contract to provide a large new teaching facility for New College Nottingham [ncn].

The £4.26 million project relocates the long-established ncn High Pavement Sixth Form College from its current suburban location back to central Nottingham. The facility is located within an extremely tight site adjacent to a major city-centre university complex, within a conservation area featuring protected trees. Completion is scheduled for August 2002.

The new five-storey building, incorporating two lifts, will provide 4,211 sq.m of additional teaching and administrative space to complement and expand existing ncn college centres spread across the city. The design and construction process involves retaining walls due to the sloping nature of the site, mass concrete pads, a steel frame, a mix of brickwork and metal cladding, with feature structural glazing and a curved standing seam overhanging roof. An elegant entrance and foyer will also be a feature of the building.

The team working with HBG Construction includes client New College Nottingham, architect Ellis Williams, structural engineer Ward Cole, M&E consultant Couch Perry Wilkes and quantity surveyor Gleeds.
