HBG awarded £7.8 million Tramshed conversion in Bath centre

HBG Construction Ltd has been awarded a contract by Future Heritage to convert the Tramshed and ancillary buildings in the centre of historic Bath to 24 spacious apartments, offices, restaurant and workshops.

Valued at £7.8 million, ‘The Tramshed’ conversion project is due to be completed in May 2002.

The four to five storey Tramshed was built to house trams in 1903. Recently the red brick building [the original façades of which are being retained in the project] has been used as a weekday car park and Saturday flea market.  The conversion will see the construction of an atrium in the centre of the building with offices and restaurant at the front of the complex and the 24 apartments overlooking the River Avon, with a 400-foot river frontage at the back of the building. Parking for 24 cars will be included in the development.

Uniquely, one of the only major brick built buildings in the centre of Bath, ‘The Tramshed’ development will retain much of the feel of its industrial heritage to remain a landmark in the city. Cyril Sweett are acting as the Client’s Project Manager & Quantity Surveyor with BBA as the architect and Mann Williams the Structural Engineers.
