HBG Construction awarded £15 million contract by the University of Liverpool

HBG Construction Ltd has been awarded a contract by the University of Liverpool, to build a new biosciences research centre and renovate other facilities on the campus.

The £15 million scheme, which recently commenced on site, will be handed over in phases, with overall completion in the summer of 2003.

The main element of the project is to construct a new biosciences research centre with a floor area of 6,300 sq.m for both research and academic use, including the provision of offices and ancillary facilities.  A new 1,820 sq.m building will also be constructed for the Mersey Bio Incubation Centre for joint research/business collaboration.  Finally, the School of Biological Science Teaching and Administration Centre building is to be reduced by four-storeys and completely renovated to give approximately 6,000 sq.m of floor space.

The contract was procured using the two stage tender process, with HBG in strong competition for this prestigious project, which sits on one of the main arterial routes into the city centre.

The architects for the Liverpool project are David Morley Architects of London and Liverpool based Tweeds will provide surveying services.
