HBG Construction begins £5.3m Asda renewal contract, Pudsey

HBG Construction Ltd has been awarded a £5.3 million contract for the extension and renewal of an existing superstore in the Owlcoates Shopping Centre, Pudsey in Leeds by Asda Stores Ltd as part of its nationwide stores improvement and expansion programme for 2001.

The 30-week project involves the refurbishment of an existing retail superstore and its extension to a total of 9,000 sq.m, including a 3,500 sq.m extension within a void at lower ground floor level.  The store will remain open for trade at all times during the works, while HBG Construction installs new flooring, escalators and lifts as well as replaces most of the M&E elements, including the sprinkler and refrigeration systems.

The renewed two-storey superstore is due for completion in November.  Like all other HBG Construction/Asda contracts currently underway elsewhere in the UK, this project will be undertaken on a full partnership arrangement with the client and other organisations in the construction team.  These include project manager Altonwood Project Services, architect Mason Richard Partnership, quantity surveyor McLeod & Aitken and structural engineer MJMC.
