9 January 2001 15:18 - BAM Construction, London

HBG Construction Ltd has been awarded two further contracts, valued together at over £5.0 million, at The Thistles Shopping Centre, a city centre shopping mall in Stirling.

The awards follow on from the recent £6.9 million mall refurbishment project carried out by HBG Construction for the same client, Standard Life Investments, at the same location.

The main contract is for the construction of a steel framed, three-storey retail extension. The 58-week contract, valued at £5.0 million, involves the demolition of an existing building at the shopping centre and the building of 7,000 square metres for three retail units, including 1,500 square metres of retail space at mall level. A second contract involves the design and installation of lifts and escalators at the centre.

The existing shopping centre will remain operational at all times throughout HBG Construction’s works. The project team includes Building Design Partnership as the architect, CBA as quantity surveyor and Blyth & Blyth as structural engineers.
