HBG Construction Ltd begins work this week on a £13.0 million contract for the design and construction of a new teaching facility at the University of Wolverhampton.
This represents the first phase of the University’s impressive £60 million programme of refurbishment. Completion of the Millennium Building is programmed for July 2002 and is scheduled to be fully operational by August 2002.
The new building comprises a basement, ground and four floors, giving a total of over 10,000 sq.m of teaching space to accommodate 1,300 students. Included within the complex will be a 300-seat lecture theatre, an informal study area, exhibition hall, refectory and provision for both academic and administrative offices. This flagship building is expected to become the new focal point of the South Campus.
The client for the project is the University of Wolverhampton Properties Ltd. RMJM Ltd is architect, Francis Graves Ltd project manager, Davis Langdon & Everest quantity surveyor and Buro Happold structural engineer.
