Impressive pile-driving for HSL

HBG Civiel’s pile-drivers are active along almost the entire 100-kilometre length of the High-Speed Train Line being built between Amsterdam Airport and the Belgian border – across land and water.

For the crossing of one of the Dutch rivers, the floating pile-driver Marlin is busy driving 49 tubular steel piles. The bridge will be a steel box girder structure carrying a concrete bridge deck. The box girders are being fabricated at the HBG Steel Structures works. Meanwhile, HBG Offshore has already driven the foundation piles for the 11 bridge piers. They are all tubular steel piles with a diameter of three metres, the longest being more than 34 metres in length. The diameter and the weight of the piles in particular – around 100 tonnes each – make this an exceptional piling project.
