Interbeton to renovate airport at Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

Gouda, Netherlands, 23 November 2004 – Interbeton bv – an operating company of Royal BAM Group, which realises construction projects outside Western Europe – has secured a €23 million contract for the renovation of the take-off and landing runway and aprons at Dar es Salaam’s international airport in Tanzania.

Interbeton will start work on 1 January 2005 and will complete the project for the Tanzania Airports Authority by mid-2006.

Interbeton is to lay a new asphalt surface on the three kilometres of runway. The aircraft aprons are also to be renovated. The contract includes also the replacement of the runway and taxiway lighting.

The airport will remain fully operational during the renovation works. Work on the runway will therefore be carried out at night, and will start immediately after the last flight has left at 23:30 hrs (a KLM flight to Amsterdam). Interbeton will then have until 7am to remove a measured area of the old runway’s top layer and to lay a new asphalt surface.

The project will be 50%-financed from Dutch development funds (Oret/Miliev programme) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
