Interbeton wins marine contract breakwater for Limbe Shipyard in Cameroon

Interbeton bv – operating company of Royal BAM Group nv and active outside Western Europe – has been awarded the design and construct contract for construction of the breakwater for Limbe Shipyard in Cameroon. The contract value amounts to €27 million. Client is Chantier Naval et Industriel du Cameroun S.A.

The project consists of a design and construct 700 m long breakwater in 15 m deep water. The construction of the breakwater consists of a rock structure with a concrete capping / road on top.

A total of one million tonnes of rock and 7,600 m³ of concrete have to be placed over a period of approximately two years.

The breakwater is the first phase in the construction of a new port; further consisting of a 400 m long quaywall, dredging works, buildings and infrastructure.

Interbeton schedules to start the design and mobilisation at the end of 2003.
