Largest store in Scotland

HBG Construction has been awarded a two-phase contract by Asda Stores for the demolition of an existing structure and construction of a new Asda Wal-Mart in the Almondvale Shopping Centre, Livingston [near Edinburgh].

This project, part of a £30 million investment at this site, represents the first Asda Superstore to be built under the Asda Wal-Mart banner in Scotland and will be the largest store in Scotland. It is also HBG Construction’s third Asda Wal-Mart supercentre project; the company having constructed the first two in Patchway, Bristol and Minworth, Birmingham, last year.

The contract involves construction over an 18-month phased period, comprising the demolition of an existing multi-storey car park, construction of a Phase I stand-alone store, followed by the demolition of an existing Asda store attached to the Almondvale Centre. Phase II involves the construction of an extension to the first store, connected by escalators and lift.

Total size of the project is 16,3000 m2 including 9,290 m2 of sales area over two floors. There will be parking spaces for 928 cars.
