Major contract for Rohcon

Rohcon has been awarded the contract for the construction of a new terminal at Cork Airport. This significant capital investment by Aer Rianta - contract value €130 million - will increase the existing terminal capacity from 1.1 million to 3 million passengers per annum.

The project consists of construction of a new terminal building (29,000 m2), the installation of three passenger air bridges and baggage handling systems, construction of a new fire station and other ancillary buildings, a multi storey short term car park (600 spaces), 3,250 surface car spaces, new access roads, underground drainage and associated attenuation tank, landscaping and signage. The new terminal, designed by Jacobs Engineering, will utilise glass, steel and timber materials in a graceful, contemporary design, which maximises the effects of light and space under a single-span curved roof structure. The building is designed to manage a capacity of up to five million passengers per annum over time, with the potential addition of a new pier and side extensions when required.

The project is scheduled for completion in September 2005.
