Major pipe contract

Ascon, in joint venture with Spie Capag, was awarded the contract for the construction of a major section of the gas pipeline to the West. The signing of the contract on 20 March saw the commencement of this hugely significant infrastructural project in Ireland.

The Ascon contract comprises the installation of 96.6 kilometres of 762 milimetres diameter steel pipe from Athlone, crossing the River Shannon, passing Ballinasloe, Craughwell and Gort with and additional ten kilometres towards Ennis.

The pipe will be laid in seven months with the route completely in reinstated a further 12 months.
