Major roads contract for British civil company Royal BAM Group

Bunnik, Netherlands, 15 February 2005 – Edmund Nuttall Ltd, the British civil engineering specialist of Royal BAM Group nv, has won the design and build contract for widening the A465 over approximately six kilometres between Abergavenny and Gilwern in South-Wales.

The contract value amounts to EUR 35 million. The client is the Welsh Assembly Government.

The A465 is known locally as the Heads of the Valleys Road and a major part of the scheme includes the construction of a bridge over the River Usk to carry the westbound carriageway. This new bridge will match the general appearance of the adjacent existing bridge, which will be retained. Nuttall will also be responsible for managing the traffic flow during construction. Special measures will be taken to minimise the environmental impact to the sensitive landscape during and after construction. Work will commence later this month with completion due by mid 2007.
