Major UK employer has moved into St Albans

2 February 2006 - HBG UK Ltd, one of the largest construction services companies in the UK with an annual turnover exceeding £800m, has just moved into new offices in the heart of St Albans. HBG is a part of Royal BAM Group, one of Europe’s largest construction organisations.

The new office, The Centrium in Griffith Way, is the base for HBG Construction Ltd’s South East operations, the architectural practice HBG Design Ltd, as well as HBG’s mechanical services division.

The new St Albans premises joins the list of HBG’s other offices including London, Edinburgh, Manchester, Bristol and Cardiff. Out of a total of more than 2.000 employees nationwide, 130 HBG staff have moved into St Albans, including a number of new staff recently recruited locally.

Bringing offices to St Albans makes geodemographic sense for existing employees, and already HBG is making new friends and settling into the locality. ‘We are committed to supporting local businesses, as well as the community’, says Paul McCreath, Personnel Manager. ‘We went to a near-by recruitment agency and they have helped us find a number of new staff from the St Albans area to work in the new offices.’

Significantly, The Centrium office is also part of a larger new office complex provided by several HBG companies. HBG Properties acquired the land and invested in the development of the overall business park, HBG Design was the architect for the project and HBG Construction built the new offices. Little wonder, therefore, that Graham Cash, director of HBG Construction and spearhead of the office move, describes his new premises and location as being ‘without a doubt, the best we have looked. The local amenities are fantastic’.
