More rooms at the Mal!

HBG Construction in the North West has been appointed to construct a new 60 bedroom extension for the Malmaison Hotel in Manchester.

This £4 million expansion programme includes the provision of additional conferencing rooms facilities as well as a new retail unit.

Andy Thomas, Regional Director for HBG in the North West, said: 'We are delighted to be working with Malmaison. We consider this a prestigious project and we are very pleased to be working on such a well known and well loved hotel in Manchester. The new extension is due to open in summer next year.'

Working with HBG on this design and build project are E.C. Harris [project managers], Leach Rhodes Walker [Architectural and Interior Design] and Buro Happold [Services and Structural Engineering].

The Manchester Malmaison is one of five hotels currently operating in the UK [Leeds, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Newcastle] with two more planned for Birmingham and London.

Philip Mahoney, General Manager for Malmaison, Manchester, said: 'This new extension is very much needed to meet customer demand in Manchester. Once we open in June next year, we will be the second largest hotel in the Malmaison chain with 177 rooms and we look forward to being able to welcome even more guests to what is already one of the North West’s premier locations for people staying in Manchester for both business and pleasure.'
