New southern regional office of Ascon and Rohcon officially opened

Micheál Martin TD, Minister for Health and Children, has officially opened the new southern regional office of Ascon and Rohcon at Euro Business Park, Little Island, Co. Cork.

In his remarks at the opening, Brendan Barrett, managing director of Ascon and Rohcon, stated: 'While Ascon is Ireland’s largest civil engineering contractor, together with Rohcon it ranks in second position in Ireland’s Top 10 of main contracting companies. All types of construction activity are included in the services provided. The companies' project record includes such notable projects as Cork Main Drainage, Ringaskiddy Deepwater Berth and Facilities, projects for the Pfizer Pharmaceutical Corporation, the Douglas Estuary Bridge, projects for SmithKline Beecham Ltd and – most recently – the new BGE Headquarters in Cork city. Nationally, projects of Ascon include the M50 and Dublin Bay Treatment Works. Rohcon is the preferred bidder on the National Aquatic Centre, a part of Sports Campus Ireland.'

Mr. Barrett further stated that the new Cork office complex was purposely built by Rohcon and will allow the Group to further expand its services to clients. He also referred to the part both companies play as a strong employer in our expanding economy. 'Ascon and Rohcon employ 2,337 people, 1,908 of whom are currently actively engaged in construction activity on over 30 building and civil engineering projects around the country.'

In his address welcoming the guests, director Theo Cullinane referred to the qualities that underpinned Ascon and Rohcon’s proven track record. 'Ascon and Rohcon pride themselves on their ability to provide innovative construction solutions, safe working sites, professional management and staff and to deliver projects to the clients desired quality, on time and within cost.'

Ascon and Rohcon have the largest plant fleet in Ireland. They are member of a strong joint venture consortium, which will participate in Ireland’s Public Private Partnership [PPP] projects.  The companies have already contributed greatly to Ireland’s built environment and the provision of its necessary infrastructure.
