Nuttall secures Gibraltar Water Catchment decommissioning contract

Edmund Nuttall Ltd has been awarded a £14.2 million contract by the Ministry of Defence for the decommissioning of the East Side Water Catchments in Gibraltar. Nuttall's specialist geotechnical division, Ritchies, will manage the contract.

The Nuttall solution involves the placement of several thousand drilled and grouted 'ground nails' to the underlying 35  sand slope which comprises the East Side Water Catchment. Following placement of the nails the corrugated iron sheets, which currently cover the slope, will be removed and replaced by seeded coir geotextile matting. It is anticipated that the contract will take two years to complete with a commencement on site early in 2000.

Edmund Nuttall Ltd is an operating company of the European construction group HBG, Hollandsche Beton Groep nv.
