Re-cycled stone façade for new research centre in Huddersfield

HBG Construction has been awarded a £3.1 million contract by the University of Huddersfield for the third and final phase, of the Canalside redevelopment of the main Queensgate campus in Huddersfield.

The work will involve the dismantling of a three-storey Grade-two listed building, known as the Weaving Shed, on Firth Street, Huddersfield.  As the new building has been carefully designed to replicate the existing building HBG will use recycled stonework for the new 3,650 sq.m. three-storey steel framed building. The new centre will be occupied by the School of Education & Professional Development, which is relocating from the Hollybank campus site, and will also house an Ultra Precision facility for the School of Engineering.

The project is due to start on site in September and is scheduled for completion in August 2001.

HBG will be working with architect Farrell & Clark, quantity surveyor Gleeds, structural engineer BSCP and building services consultant IBSEC.
